Karen Haddy describes the creation of her business as “the course of least resistance” – meaning that it was what she was always meant to do and still loves doing today. After receiving her BA in Journalism from Drake University in Des Moines, IA, Karen started her career in the advertising business in Los Angeles. CA. She later moved into Human Resource Management and worked as the Recruiting and Employment Director of a fast growing menswear company.
There she learned the ins and outs of the apparel business from the sewing and cutting floors to the executive suite. Along the way she was mentored by some of the best and brightest in the apparel industry – from design, product development, manufacturing, distribution & supply chain through sales and buyer relationships.
In 1988, Karen moved her business from beaches of Marina del Rey, CA to the mountains of Telluride, CO continuing to expand her business into Outdoor, Athletic, Activewear, Sportswear and Lifestyle apparel and related industries. As her business grew, so did Karen, becoming a specialist in finding and recruiting brand creative, merchandising, design and product development talent that enabled her special clients to stay ahead of industry changes and their competition.
In 2005 Karen Haddy & Associates moved to Portland, OR, which is considered by many to be the hub of the sports apparel and footwear industry.
At the same time, she joined forces with Martha Moore, a 17 year Nike veteran who has brought a fresh and energetic approach to their niche of Creative Branded Search. Along with other global search partners, specializing in apparel, footwear and entertainment, kh+a provides clients with a wealth of information based on their constant contact with leaders in the apparel industry.
Karen's intuitive and insightful style has allowed her to move well beyond executive search services into other areas of employment planning and change management. She has provided support and vision as well as created strategy to develop long term plans with her corporate partners.
Karen continues to be an integral part of the ever changing apparel and footwear industry. Because of her reputation for integrity, honesty, resourcefulness and extensive contacts, she continues to grow, build, and influence the retail marketplace even today in our current tough business climate.
If you work with Karen and her team once, you will understand why she is so unique in the executive search business!
